NZNF making a difference at Auckland Prison

We have recently completed our 8-week Tika Tunu programme which focused on building cooking skills, nutrition and health knowledge, motivation and confidence to cook for tāne participants.

JUST COOK 4 Healthy Ageing

JUST COOK 4 Healthy Ageing is a fun, practical and FREE cooking and nutrition course for older people. You can make new friends and have fun while you learn. The three-hour classes are held over four consecutive weeks and include morning tea and lunch.

September 2017 NZNF Newsletter

NZNF have moved! Thanks to the Devonport- Takapuna Local Board we have moved to the refurbished barracks at Fort Takapuna, Narrow Neck. In this issue of the newsletter, Sarah Hanrahan outlines the growth of the JUST COOK programmes. Our pilot programme for JUST COOK 4 Healthy Ageing is progressing well and we are pleased to be hosting the Honorable Maggie Barry, Minister for Senior Citizens at the Milford Course. Tika Tunu, our JUST COOK programme for women in prison is another programme we are aiming to make sustainable. We recently completed a second Tika Tunu programme at Auckland Regional Women’s Corrections Facility (ARWCF). The extended programme which focused on developing food and financial literacy skills included the delivery of a Hospitality Unit Standard. We are extremely grateful to the SKYCITY Auckland Community Trust who have given us funding to deliver this programme for another 12 months.

To a substantial degree, dinner is destiny. That was one of the key messages from key note speaker Dr David Katz at the "Food Not Nutrients - Getting back to talking about food" symposium, at the Waipuna Conference Centre in Auckland last Thursday. Dr Katz, a world renowned expert in disease prevention, was brought to New Zealand by the New Zealand Nutrition Foundation to share his considerable experience and knowledge on what we should be eating.
