Functional Foods Conference

The field of Functional Foods continues to grow in importance in the food industry. Customers want 'healthier' foods: the challenge is to enhance the bioactive, antioxidant or mood-enhancing potential of a food without reducing its appeal, or making it too expensive.
Baby boomers are the generation whose zest for life makes them respond to the innovative developments coming from the food and supplement industries in anti-aging, maintenance of cognition, digestive health, joint health and protection against chronic disease. It has been claimed that maintaining good digestive health becomes important from age 40 onwards, and prevention of cardiovascular risk from age 50. From age 60, maintaining flexible and pain free joints and maintaining cognitive skills re increasingly the top concerns of mature consumers around the world. We will follow some of these important trends, with cutting edge research from New Zealand and overseas researchers, plus contributions from the industry.
For this year's conference, we are focusing on functional foods for baby boomers. This doesn't mean we have ignored other aspects of the area. Once again we will include the latest scientific developments and go on to cover the practical business of creating marketable, functional food products.
Remember, this annual symposium is a networking goldmine, whether you supply ingredients, are engaged in new product development or research.
The Functional Foods Symposium is an initiative of the University of Auckland and Plant and Food Research.
It will be held in the spectacular University of Auckland Business School, Owen G Glenn Building which has excellent conference facilities and easy access parking on-site.
