AWARD HELPS NUTRITIONISTS STRIVE FOR EXCELLENCE
The New Zealand Nutrition Foundation and Kellogg’s® are seeking entries for the annual Nutritionist Development Award. Now in its 17th year, this award has helped many leading Kiwi nutritionists achieve academic and professional excellence in their specialist field.
The annual award enhances the knowledge and skills of newly-qualified nutritionists within New Zealand; the winner receiving a prize of $5,000 to fund attendance at an overseas conference or course to assist career development.
Sue Pollard, CEO, New Zealand Nutrition Foundation, says this award offers significant benefits for New Zealanders. “In the current economic climate, newer graduates don’t have many opportunities to attend the overseas conferences, which are so important for their career development and the quality of their practice. We are delighted to be able to support them in this way”
Last year’s award winner, Helen Eyles, a research fellow working at the University of Auckland’s Clinical Trials Research Unit, used the Nutritionist Development Award to attend the International Society of Behavioural Nutritional conference in Melbourne recently, to attend a symposium in Sydney on Salt in Health, and to develop collaborations with researchers at the George Institute in Sydney. “As an emerging public health researcher, the Nutritionist Development Award was invaluable,” says Eyles. “I have no doubt that this award has helped me to further my career”
Applicants must write a 1000-word paper describing how they believe they can contribute to improving the nutritional status of New Zealanders. Entries close on July 22 with the winner announced at the New Zealand Nutrition Foundation AGM on September 1.
