Food Week putting better meals on the tables of Kiwi families
15 per cent of New Zealand households often or sometimes run out of food due to lack of money* – an issue the New Zealand Nutrition Foundation (NZNF) will address during Food Week. Food Week is returning for a second year from 7-13 May with the aim of raising awareness of the meal challenges many New Zealand families face on a day-to-day basis.

The March newsletter of New Zealand Nutrition is now available on our website, listed under NZNF newsletters. Older People's Nutrition: e-Bulletin March 2012
The ninth issue of our Bulletin, updating you on issues of importance or topical interest relating to nutrition and physical activity of older people. In this issue, we focus on the Ministry of Health's Adult Nutrition survey. Data were collected in 2008-09, and released late last year. The previous Nutrition Survey was conducted in 1997, and it is interesting to see how the diets of older people have changed during the intervening years.
Older people's nutrition at risk
Rising food costs could increase the risk of malnutrition in vulnerable older New Zealanders according to a New Zealand Nutrition Foundation Working Group. Julian Jensen, Chair of New Zealand Nutrition Foundation’s Committee for Healthy Ageing, believes the rising costs of food could have a significant impact on this sector of society whose members are generally on fixed, tightly budgeted incomes.
