Making Meals Matter - Auckland presentations May 2010

The Foundation was delighted to host a seminar in Auckland in May, presenting the latest research into keeping our seniors well by making meals matter. Topics covered were the nutrition needs for older people, how to identify those at risk and what to do about it – both in the community and in residential care.

Our four speakers, all dietitians with vast experience in this area, spoke about their latest work.

  1. Sarah Ley discussed 'What do older people need to eat and why does it matter?'
  2. Sally Watson outlined her project work in Christchurch 'Identifying those at risk - Nutrition risk screening in community-living older people'
  3. Kaye Dennison shared the results of her work in Waitemata 'Community nutrition rehabilitation for malnourished older people: a pilot study
  4. Julian Jensen's research in rest homes throughout New Zealand gave practical advice as well as the latest literature findings 'Making meals matter: the dining environment in New Zealand rest homes'.
